Oahu Land Tours
Oahu has some excellent land tours available for those that prefer to see Hawaii from the ground, and many of them are well worth noting. Below we've listed our favorite land tours offered on the island of Oahu.
Dole Pineapple Plantation
The Pineapple Garden Maze at Dole Plantation, officially recognized in the 2001 Guinness Book of World Records as the world's largest, offers adventure at every turn. Covering an area of more than two acres, with a path length of 1.7 miles, it's made of 11,400 colorful Hawaii plants -- including several varieties of hibiscus, the official state flower. While you're there, visit the recently renovated plantation center. It's a blend of modern convenience and the old plantation design. Later, you can look for that perfect gift among the hundreds of unique pineapple-themes and Dole brand items in the gift shop.
Honolulu Zoo
Located at the corner of Kapahulu Avenue and Kalakaua Boulevard, the Honolulu Zoo is the home of hundreds of mammals, birds and reptiles. With more than 750,000 visitors a year, the Honolulu Zoo is a popular attraction on Oahu. It is also the “largest zoo within a radius of 2,300 miles” as it says at the entrance. Kids will love the Children's Zoo, where they can meet animals up close. Visitors can spend a fun day here, bring or purchase some food and relax in the picnic area.
Pearl Harbor
If you're going to travel to Oahu a visit to the USS Arizona Memorial at Pearl Harbor is a must. Super Star Hawaii Tours has a combination Pearl Harbor / Honolulu city tour that takes you through downtown Honolulu where you'll see Iolani Palace, the King Kamehameha statue, Chinatown and the downtown business district. Stopping at Punchbowl National Cemetery along the way sets the mood for the somber and solemn Pearl Harbor tour. Upon arrival at the visitor center you'll view a film detailing the events of December 7, 1941 before boarding the ferry to the USS Arizona Memorial where you'll get a glimpse into history like no other.
Cross Country Movie Set Tours
Ever wished you could visit the beautiful locales featured in movies like Jurassic Park, Windtalkers, and Tears of the Sun? Kos Tours can make that wish a reality with their unique off-road movie tour. Offered twice daily, this excursion takes you on a Hummer ride deep into the lush Kualoa Ranch valleys that served as backdrops for these Hollywood features. They'll take you through streambeds, up mountain slopes, and across rough terrain straight to the most beautiful scenery Hawaii has to offer. Be sure to wear walking shoes, because a brief hike at the end leads to even better views.
Oahu Nature Tours
Oahu Nature Tours specializes in small, guided eco-tours to the island's most fascinating places. On all tours, you'll enjoy spectacular views and great photo opportunities. Also, you'll learn more about Oahu's geology, archaeology, mythology and history. Whether you are interested in a Diamond Head Crater adventure, a Hawaiian rainforest hike or a Hawaiian waterfall hike, Oahu Nature Tours is the adventure traveler's choice for Hawaiian eco-tours.
