Maui Land Tours

Maui is a beautiful island, indeed. To get a true taste of the island's history we strongly recommend these three land tours.

Iao Valley State Park

Mark Twain called the Iao Valley 'The Yosemite of the Pacific'. The Iao Valley State Park is just a short trip from most resort areas on the island. Situated in the center of the West Maui Mountains, this valley is the site of one of the greatest battles in Hawaiian History. You will enter the interior of a ancient volcanic crater with high, steep cliffs and volcanic spires, in particular, The Iao Needle. Don't miss the new $1.2-million Interactive Science Arcade, which unlocks Hawaii's natural world (lie down on a dragonfly bench and take a simulated flight).

Tropical Gardens of Maui

Tropical Gardens of Maui, located in Iao Valley on the windward side of the island, is a 4-acre botanical garden and export plant nursery. Visitors can see a variety of orchids, palms, flowering tees and other exotic plants from all over the world. There are picnic tables throughout the park where one can sit, eat and relax in the peaceful surroundings. Souvenirs are available in the Iao Gardens Gift Shop.

The Baily House Museum

The Bailey House Museum was built in 1833 and showcases Hawaiian artifacts, paintings and furnishings from 19th century Maui. In the Museum Shop, visitors can find Hawaiian books, music and gifts, all made in Hawaii. It's located on 2375 Main Street in Wailuku.
